In this detailed review, we test the Hisense U7Q 4K Ultra HD Smart QLED Mini-LED TV in real-world conditions — including brightness, black levels, motion handling, gaming, audio performance, and smart features — to find out whether it truly stands out in its price range
To provide an unbiased and honest review, I purchased this TV with my own money. It comes with a 2-year company warranty. I have thoroughly tested this unit and also optimized the best picture settings.
BUILD QUALITY
The build quality of the TV is quite good. Its centrally attached metallic tabletop stand gives it a premium look. The stand also includes a cable management provision. The TV is quite heavy, which reflects its sturdy build.
It is bezel-less on three sides, and even the bottom bezel is quite slim, with Hisense branding on one side and a far-field microphone system embedded at the center bottom. On the back, there’s a checkered pattern in ABS plastic, and in the center, a built-in subwoofer is installed. Most ports are placed on the side, while a few are positioned at the back. Overall, the TV looks very premium and elegant. The silver-grey metallic-finished remote perfectly complements the TV’s premium look. It is not only stylish but also ergonomically designed, making it very comfortable to hold. It features Alexa voice command, allowing you to control the TV via voice through the remote.
You also get direct buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and TV channels.
Before discussing real-world performance, let’s look at the company-given specifications ⬇️
Real-world performance
This unit was purchased independently and tested thoroughly for unbiased results.
The Hisense U7Q features an 8-bit FRC 144Hz VA panel with Full Array backlighting and Mini-LED local dimming. It has a total of 160 dimming zones. Blooming is hardly noticeable. In dark night scenes, bright building lights against a black sky show no bleeding effect. Night scenes look very attractive. Banding is also minimal.
Because of the VA panel, the contrast ratio is excellent and black uniformity is outstanding. Sometimes, on a black screen, it feels as if the TV is switched off. No light bleeding is visible.
Grey uniformity is average. Dirty Screen Effect is barely noticeable. There are no dark box effects or black spots on the edges. The screen looks clean overall.
In motion and ghosting tests, the TV performed very well. With a 144Hz refresh rate, motion handling is excellent, making it a perfect choice for watching cricket matches. Backlight flickering is almost negligible.
Color reproduction is impressive, with a wide color gamut delivering vibrant yet accurate colors. The TV offers multiple preset picture modes, including Filmmaker Mode, which delivers a realistic viewing experience. You also get personal settings to adjust saturation, brightness, and contrast. Blacks are deep, and overall picture quality is excellent.
Upscaling is also very good. OTT content and USB playback both scale well. Even 720p videos upscale nicely. A 1TB hard disk was fully supported, but a 2TB SSD was not detected.
Audio quality is very good — loud, crystal clear, and with noticeable bass. Dialogues are crisp. You may not feel the need for a soundbar, but if desired, you can connect one via HDMI eARC or other available connectivity options.
The TV supports screen mirroring for both Android and Apple devices. Wireless casting is smooth and effortless.
In terms of smart features, this is a Linux-based TV running on VIDAA OS. One limitation is that you cannot sideload external apps — you can only use apps provided by the company. However, it includes all major apps and even a Play Store to download games and other applications. In my opinion, VIDAA has now become a strong alternative to Android, offering faster browsing and quicker boot-up times. The 8-year update assurance is also a big plus.
The TV includes a far-field microphone for hands-free Alexa commands, and you can also use VIDAA Voice.
Honestly, I couldn’t find any major drawbacks. The only limitation — which is common to all VA panels — is that beyond a 30-degree viewing angle, colors slightly fade.
For gaming, the TV includes all high-end features such as ALLM, VRR, AMD FreeSync, 144Hz refresh rate, and HDMI 2.1, making it a great option for gamers. With a PS5, you can enjoy 4K HDR gaming at 144Hz. The Game Dashboard allows precise control, and gaming feels smooth with life-like graphics.
