Hisense All Set To Launch Hisense Tornado With 102 Watts JBL Speakers

Is Hisense Tornado, A Real Powerful Package In Budget?

Hisense is all set to launch a new series of 4k TVs in India, The Hisense Tornado. In this series, the company has announced only two sizes, 65-inch & 55-inch.

However, I fail to understand, why it is launching a new series when even its previous TVs are not therein stocks. Those who don't know, I would like to apprise them that Hisense & Toshiba are the TVs of the same company. As of now, even the after-sales services of these TVs are not good. Those who have purchased these TVs are having a hard time contacting the company.

It would have been better if the company would have given priority to making its service centres operational so that people do not face any problem, but all companies are just concerned about making profits rather than focusing on consumers’ problems. Now, as the company has announced these TVs, let me tell you their details along with my opinion on this series.

The main attraction of these TVs is their 102 Watts JBL sound-bar that comes integrated into these TVs. The name Tornado has been given to this series to highlight the powerful audio that comes along with it. This is for sure that the audio of these TVs will be phenomenal. Till now, none of the TVs, have this much audio output in it. And then, JBL is known for its superb sound quality.

In these TVs, there will be a total of six speakers, out of which, four will be full-range, while two will be high-frequency speakers. Apart from this, these speakers will be Dolby Atmos-enabled. Because these TVs will have a powerful sound output, you will get to hear the effect of Dolby Atmos to some extent. However, these TVs will also not be able to give you more than 20% effect of Dolby Atmos. To be precise, you will get only a hint of what Dolby Atmos actually is. For full Dolby Atmos experience, you will need a 9.1.2 or 7.1.2 audio set-up. The design of this TV is good, it comes with a black ultra-slim bezel & a grey metallic stand. Unlike audio, no extra specification has been incorporated to enhance its picture performance too.

All specifications are exactly like their other budget lower-range models, which is a bit disappointing. These TVs will come with the support of Dolby Vision, HDR10 & HLG. The company has not mentioned its brightness value anywhere. For a better picture performance, high brightness is the most vital ingredient in a TV. And, for a good picture performance on a 65-inch big screen, a brightness of at least 700 Nits is necessary. The effectiveness of Dolby Vision & HDR10 can only be seen when the brightness of a TV is at least 1000 Nits.

In reality, none of the TVs in the budget category, including the higher brands, give you the real performance of an HDR10 or Dolby Vision TV. Nowadays, companies flaunt HDR10 & Dolby Vision even in their TVs hardly having a brightness of 300 Nits, which is nothing but marketing gimmickry to make consumers fool. The value of brightness that Hisense will give in this TV still needs to be seen. However, I don't think it would be better than their existing models. If it would have been better, the company would certainly have highlighted it like its audio output.

In these TVs, you don't get Local Dimming, instead, UHD dimming has been given. This means these TVs will not come with Full-Array LED backlighting. Here, I would like to apprise you that apart from Local Dimming, no other dimming actually plays any effective role in enhancing the picture quality. Such specifications are given just to misguide consumers.

Both these TVs will come with depth enhancer, noise reduction & smooth motion. But here, I would like to apprise you of the fact that none of the technologies, apart from Sony MotionFlow, work towards actually reducing the motion blur.

However, in some budget TVs having a 60 Hz refresh rate, motion blur is not much problematic. In Hisense TVs, motion blur is not that much evident while watching normal contents. But you cannot avoid it during fast action scenes. And, on a 65-inch big screen, it becomes all the more evident. I have a 65-inch Vu Pixelight TV whose refresh rate is only 60 Hz. While watching normal contents, I do not find any problem in viewing it, but in fast action scenes, it is unavoidable. And certainly, this much we have to bear if we opt for a budget category TV.

But, in some budget TVs, motion blur is much visible, which does irritate. However, in Hisense, you won't face any such problem. And, if you connect your PlayStation to this TV, the motion blur will get marginally reduced. Even a good Android TV box reduces the motion blur of a TV. These Hisense TVs will come with Android 9.0 OS, with 2 GB RAM & 16 GB internal storage, which is pretty decent. Both TVs get a Quad-core CPU & Mali 480 MP GPU. The TVs will come with Google Play Store & you will also be able to side-load outside apps on them. On both these TVs, you will get the liberty to play almost all applications.

They will come with Google Assistant & you will get voice command remotes with them. Due to their low-input lag, these TVs will be appropriate for gaming. They will come with Sports Mode as well as Game Mode, which will reduce motion blur during gaming. These TVs will come with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v5.0, apart from 2 USB ports, 3 HDMI 2.0 compliant ports, AV port, Ethernet Port, SPDIF port & a Headphone Jack.

HDMI ARC & CEC will be present on these TVs. In my opinion, if the company doesn't increase the brightness and refresh rate, then the picture quality of these TVs will be exactly like their previously launched models, but audio will be superb. The picture quality of Hisense TVs has been definitely good in the budget category, but, the dirty screen effect had been much visible on its previously launched TVs. We hope that this time it would be less evident. If these TVs come at a reasonable rate, like around 65k for the 65-inch model and 42k for the 55-inch TV, then definitely they would be a good option in the budget category. But if the company launches them at higher prices, then I don't think it would be an attractive deal. I believe the company should have also enhanced the picture performance, rather than just focusing on the audio. Just augmenting the audio doesn't make these TVs much attractive as audio can always be enhanced at any time through a home theatre, whereas, the picture quality is inherent. If you connect a 160 Watts soundbar to any 55 or 65 inches TV, you will get a better audio experience than this TV.

If we compare the picture quality of Hisense Tornado with Nokia TV, then Nokia gets an edge, due to its high brightness, whereas, in audio, Hisense Tornado will easily beat Nokia. After-sales services of both these TVs are not good. I do not suggest investing so much on a budget TV as even if you go for the costliest budget TV, its after-sales services will remain lacklustre. And without proper after-sales services, even the most outstanding product will not allow you peace of mind.
