Toshiba C350LP

T
his year, both Hisense A6H and Toshiba C350LP TVs have been launched at the same time. Toshiba and Hisense are the same companies as far as India is concerned. The Chinese company, Hisense, has purchased the right from Toshiba, which is a Japanese company, to manufacture and market TVs under its brand name in India. The Japanese company, Toshiba, apart from contributing to the design of the TV also keeps an eye on the quality of the Toshiba TVs sold in India by Hisense.

For ages, Toshiba is seen as a reliable Japanese company whose products are held in high esteem. This is the reason why the overall quality of Toshiba TVs is a tad superior to Hisense. We got to see this difference in their last models too.

In my opinion, the picture quality of Toshiba TVs is a tad better than Hisense, whom it beats on the designing front, too. The specifications of both the TVs are similar and the picture quality of both is also very good, but, personally, I liked the picture quality and design of the Toshiba TV more than Hisense. This is the reason why I am reviewing this Toshiba TV because I believe when there is a choice in the same price bracket, why settle with something a little lesser? However, there are some differences between these TVs in their features. The company has given Toshiba a premium design with a metallic stand, which makes it superior in looks. On Toshiba, you get 24 Watts speakers, whereas, Hisense comes with only 20 Watts speakers. On the other hand, Hisense gets a remote-less voice command feature, along with, the find my remote feature. By giving slightly different features, the Hisense company has tried to prove them different, in front of consumers. You can go for any of these TVs as both are pretty good and the aftersales services of both these TVs are being looked after by Hisense only. As of now, this series of Toshiba TVs is coming in three variants, 43-inches, 50 inches & 55 inches. The picture quality of all these variants is the same, you can choose according to your requirement and budget.

 UNBOXING

Inside the box, apart from the TV, you get a remote, 2 AAA+ batteries, some screws, an instruction manual, a warranty card, a power cord and a wall mount.

 BUILT & DESIGN

The built quality of the TV is pretty good. High-grade plastic and metal have been used for constructing this TV.

The TV is bezel-less from three sides and the lowermost silver bezel is also slim, on the left side of which, Toshiba branding is given. The two-piece silver metallic table-top stand matches perfectly with the silver bezel of the TV. There are some provisions for cable management too. The legs of the TV come in a broad blade design. The metallic silver finish of the stand accentuates the overall looks of this TV, and, imparts it a premium feel. The side profile of the TV is also ultra-slim and the screen comes with a floating glass display, which makes the screen appear a little raised. On the Hisense A6H TV, too, you get the same floating glass display, but, the silver bezel and metallic silver table-top stand grant the Toshiba TV a premium appeal, which Hisense lacks. Beneath the center of the bottom bezel, a physical power button has been provided. On the backside of the TV, high-grade Black plastic has been used on which a decent design has been imparted. A bit away from the edges, a rectangular box design has been given, on the sides and back of which, all ports have been placed. Overall in looks, this TV is elegant and stylish. The built quality of the remote is decent. Designed in a silver and black dual tone, it matches perfectly with the TV. On it, you get direct buttons to Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, YouTube Play, and, Media, apart from the Google Assistant button. You can control this TV through your voice command also.

 CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS

On the connectivity front, this Toshiba TV comes with 3 HDMI and 2 USB ports. Apart from HDMI ARC and CEC, you get HDMI eARC on it. This TV comes with HDMI 2.1. In addition to these ports, the TV comes with an antenna port, an AV port, an Ethernet port, an optical digital port and composite input ports. The TV has a built-in dual-band Wi-Fi support, along with Bluetooth v5.0, through which you can wirelessly connect your headphones, gaming console, and home theatre to this TV.

 FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS

Now let's talk about the company-given features and specifications. This TV comes with an A+ grade 10-bit VA panel and you get to see more than 1 billion colours on it. The response time of the TV is 8 ms and the static contrast ratio is 4000:1. This TV comes with a 60 Hz refresh rate and there is support for HDR 10, Dolby Vision, HLG and Dolby Atmos. The TV comes fitted with Regza 4K engine apart from Regza power audio, which according to the company, grants you an audio performance that makes you feel as if you were right there in the centre of any action. The TV comes with 24 Watts stereo speakers. It has Color Remaster that brings the pictures very close to their original colours. The TV comes with Sports as well as Game modes. The Game Mode minimizes the input lag and also reduces the jitters and shakes. It comes with HDMI 2.1, which supports auto low latency mode and variable refresh rate. To reduce motion blur, the TV has MEMC technology. This is an Android TV that comes with Google TV UI. It has 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. For graphics, there is a Mali G52 processor.

REAL PERFORMANCE  Now, let's talk about its ground performance.

 Picture Quality

As this TV comes with a VA panel, its grey screen uniformity is mediocre. On the other hand, its Black screen uniformity is good. The TV comes with a 10-bit dithering panel, which imitates a real 10-bit panel and tries to replicate it. Though banding on this TV is rare, sometimes you do get to see banding on some colour background. As this is a VA panel TV, its contrast ratio is pretty good. The colour reproduction of the TV is vivid and bright, and, the colours, despite being vibrant, appear very close to reality. The real brightness of the TV is approximately 350 Nits, despite this, surprisingly, the dark scene performance of its HDR videos is pretty good. The Blacks on this TV are not very deep they are just sufficiently deep. Deep enough not to hide details behind them. The foremost thing about this TV is that though objects and clothes appear jet-Black when there is any Black background it tends to get a bit lighter so that details do not get hidden. This is the reason why despite having less brightness, this TV is able to exhibit much detail clarity even in dark scenes. In fact, the detail clarity of this TV is the best amongst TVs falling in the budget category. On this TV, you get amazing detail clarity in dark scenes.

The Dolby Vision videos also play fairly good on this TV. While playing Dolby Vision videos, the internal settings of the TV get automatically switched to Dolby Vision. You get Dolby Vision Bright, and Dolby Vision Dark, apart from the option for Dolby Vision custom settings. Theoretically, the brightness of the TV might sound low, but, it is pretty sufficient to light up a 43-inch screen. On this TV, you get pretty sharp and clear pictures, it will not be an exaggeration to say that its picture clarity is superb! You don't get to see any digital noise or disturbance that can hinder your viewing experience. Though the bright room performance of this TV is fairly good, in a dark room, you get its best performance, where its Blacks, too, appear deep. Out of the box, the settings of this TV are not that good, but after calibration, you get to see very good colours on it. These are some of the settings, you can note them down & if you want you can apply them to your TV for better performance. Now coming to the picture upscaling capability of this TV: You get very good picture upscaling on it. Apart from the OTT contents, videos played through the USB ports also get upscaled beautifully. This TV upscales 720p as well as 1080p content to a great extent. As this TV comes with a VA panel, its viewing angle is not perfect, however, you cannot call it bad either. Till the time you are not sitting at an extreme angle, you will not observe much deviation in colours. Despite having a refresh rate of 60 Hz, I did not observe any noticeable motion blur issue on this TV. Yes, during very fast-paced action scenes, sometimes you do get to see a little blur, but this TV controls motion to a great extent. HD channels look good on this TV and good SD channels also can be watched comfortably.

 Audio

Out of the box, the audio of this TV is not that good, however, after calibration, you get to hear sufficiently loud and somewhat fair audio on it. The audio of this TV is sufficient for a 12x20 ft sized room. These are the audio settings of the TV, especially the equalizer one, you can note them down. As this TV comes with HDMI eARC, you can connect it to any Dolby Atmos soundbar or even a simple Dolby digital soundbar to get great sound output.

 Toshiba U5050 Vs Toshiba C350LP

The last model of Toshiba, the U5050 TV, was also a very good TV, but, it came with some cons, which have been removed in this new model. The previous model came with a single-band Wi-Fi and Vidaa operating system that had its own limitations, whereas, this model has a dual-band Wi-Fi and Android OS that also comes with Google TV UI.

 ANDROID SMARTNESS

You can play almost all applications on this TV and even side-load outside apps on it. You also get the Google Play Store on this TV, from where you can download games and applications. The Google UI makes your browsing experience pretty easier. There is no lag on this TV, and, even when you switch between different applications, you don't face any problem. Casting is smooth on this TV and it supports DLNA, Airplay and Miracast. You can cast the contents of your Android and Apple devices on the big screen of this TV smoothly. Now coming to its gaming performance; When you connect your PS5 PlayStation to this TV, it will not automatically start supporting VRR and ALLM, till you go into the TV settings and change it to the enhanced HDMI mode. Gaming is lag-free and smooth on this TV. There is no stuttering issue and despite this TV, having a 60 Hz refresh rate, the gaming experience was pretty enjoyable.

CONCLUSION

In my opinion, the price point at which you are getting this TV is superb, you will not find this quality TV, even in a much higher price bracket.
